St. Matthew’s House, which is a non-profit business, is planning to create a homeless shelter with 200 beds in Bonita Springs. The latest proposal submitted to the city gave a location of 27975 Old 41 Rd., near the intersection of Old 41 and Bonita Beach Road. This used to be a former bank building owned by Corrion Bonita LLC. Here is the location on Google maps:

This news has created a lot of controversy as many residents feel this is a bad location for the homeless shelter, although St. Matthews House appears to have a great reputation. On NaplesNews.com, there are already 26 comments to the story.

Residents in favor of the location state that this building is already an eyesore to the community, so it is better to not let it remain empty. Residents against the location feel that this shelter should not be placed in an area that the city is trying to revitalize as a future center of the city. Another resident commented that this location is across the street from a school, although I have not confirmed this yet. What is everyone’s opinion?
